About Us
Founded in 1955, the Dorrigo Dramatic Club is a vibrant community theatre group based at the historic Old Gazette Theatre in Dorrigo. We are passionate about storytelling, creativity, and bringing people together through live performance, film, and shared cultural experiences. Our club is home to a range of programs and activities that nurture confidence, creativity, and community connection.
Our Programs and Activities
Local Theatre Performances
Our productions showcase the amazing talent within our local community, bringing stories to life on the stage of The Old Gazette Theatre. From classic works to contemporary pieces, our performances celebrate theatre as a shared experience.
Youth Programming
We run a variety of youth-focused programs, including ‘Kids on Stage’ performance opportunities, and term-based Young Drama and Teen Drama programs that use theatre games, improvisation, and creative activities that build theatre skills, teamwork, and self-confidence.
The Old Gazette Film Society
The Old Gazette Film Society is also part of the club, bringing people together for monthly film screenings. These evenings offer a chance to enjoy quality cinema, spark conversation, and connect with fellow film lovers in a relaxed and friendly setting. Visit the OGFS website to see a calendar of upcoming film screenings here.
Play Readings
We hold regular play readings that are open, relaxed, and social. These sessions are a chance to explore new scripts, discover potential future productions, and enjoy the simple pleasure of reading plays together – no pressure and no commitment required!
Governance
The Dorrigo Dramatic Club operates as an incorporated association, and is a registered charity with the Australian Charities and Not-For-Profits Commission (see our ACNC profile here). The club is governed by a volunteer Management Committee, which meets monthly to oversee the strategic direction of the organisation, including programming, financial management, governance and compliance, and the ongoing care and maintenance of the historic Old Gazette Theatre. You can view The Dorrigo Dramatic Club’s Constitution here.
The club is also supported by its members, and community volunteers, who play a vital role in all aspects of our work, from productions, set design, and costuming to front-of-house support, working bees, and behind-the-scenes assistance that keeps the club and theatre thriving. If you’d like to become a member and be part of the Dorrigo Dramatic Club, join us today and support local community theatre!
